MEETING HI LIGHTS - JANUARY 23, 2010

Twelve members, officers and guests were present.
The usual reports were given and received. Treas. Report: $ 1,023.55
Dutch and Pete continuing to work on a very elusive audio problem in the
link, but making progress by eliminating some possibilities.
The Christmas Luncheon on 12/19/09 was discussed. Dolores, who headed up
organizing the event, said the food was good and plentiful. She wished we
had more participants. The collection for the Mountain Peace Shelter was
noticeably below previous years at the Christmas Luncheon.
To be discussed further on March 27 were Field Day and the “14ERs”
events. Participation in Bailey Days was discussed and voted down. Burro
Days also mentioned, with Dolores not sure if she’ll head up the Hams
involvement. Sharon and Jack will if Dolores doesn’t.

The usual reports were given and received. Treas. Report: $ 1,438.55
Dutch and Pete continuing to work on audio problems in the link. A hum
has developed on the 147.090 (Kenosha) and both men planning a trip to the
site on Wednesday.
The Christmas Luncheon was discussed. Sharon asked for volunteers to head
it up, but no one came forward. Sharon decided the event should be “a TRUE
POT LUCK.”
We will again be collecting donations for the mountain Peace Shelter.
Sharon will post the Shelter’s needs. We should also consult Pinecam.

Eleven members and officers and one guest were present. Another new
member joined.
The usual reports were given and received. Treas. Report: $ 1,447.55
Dutch and Pete continuing to work on audio problems in the link. They
were up to Kenosha on Friday, 9/25. There was a good discussion about a new
antenna for Dick Mountain, with material brought (and suggested) by Dwain.
Nancy and Jim told about the current program at DCES with 12 students in
grade three and four, which is going well.
In Dolores’ absence Jack reported on the Burro Races, with emphasis on
the APRS testing during the race, which captured the great interest of race
officials. APRS will be seriously considered for the 2010 Burro Race.

The usual reports were given and received. Treas. Report: $914.15
Repeater Committee: Dutch and Pete are having a rig repaired (under
warranty) and another serviced
Elections: Padre has now consented to run again as secretary. He was
nominated and returned to office.
Gregg and Padre are stepping down from printed newsletter responsibility,
and will prepare one more for August. Sharon to look for a new editor (or
editors).
The secretary is asking to be relieved of non-secretarial jobs (see full
minutes). Sharon will be assigning them to other members.
VE session went well with six candidates who came, tested and conquered!

Dutch and Pete will shortly be checking out the link between sites and
the antenna Installations.
A written report was filed by Nancy and Jim about the DCES radio project.
It is filed with the full minutes of today’s meeting.
We will not be involved in Bailey day this year.
Elections: Sharon, Jack, Dwain and Dutch were returned to office. Padre
was deciding if he wanted to return as secretary. That election will be at
the July 25 meeting.
Pete made a presentation about an RF ammeter for window line, with a
model he made.

The usual reports were given and received. Treas. Report: $599.43
The repeater committee continues working to upgrade both sites at Dick
Mountain and Kenosha Range. Generally all machines working well.
Concerns about the membership decline were discussed again, noting other
Ham clubs (and other non-Ham organizations) are experiencing declining
membership, possibly because of the current financial conditions.
The agenda order of the day was revised so that we started out with PIZZA
provided by Daniel for his tenth anniversary as a Ham, then the tech talk
and lastly both PCRC and D-6 meetings.

The repeater committee is still working to resolve some problems with the
linking system between Dick Mountain and Kenosha Range.
The matter of changing the club’s Annual Meeting to May (because of a
change in the meeting schedule) was further discussed, and the amendment as
previously announced to amend the by-laws was passed.
Concerns about the membership decline were discussed, with suggestions
for recruiting new members, and re-enlisting the lapsed members.

Experiencing some noise (maybe internal feedback) on
the 147.090. Being closely monitored. Pete programming new UHF repeater for
Kenosha. The digipeater has been installed at Kenosha.
Special greetings to Dutch on his birthday today.
Schedule of club meetings was discussed, and motion
passed to reduce monthly meetings to odd months starting in 2009. We’ll
need a formal amendment to move the Annual Meeting from June to ????? --- Be
prepared to vote on this amendment at the January meeting.
Sharon mentioned the Conifer Christmas Parade and
our Christmas Luncheon.

Five-Can
duplexer has been retuned and installed at Kenosha by Dutch and Pete.
Ham
Radio In Schools is running again with two meetings already. Club agreed to $150
support for the program, as requested by Jim and Nancy Stitt.
Special
greetings to Neal and Dolores Hart on their 65th Anniversary, with a bouquet to be
delivered on the day … Sept. 29.
Sharon
mentioned the Conifer Christmas Parade and our Christmas Luncheon.

Report: $1,586.48.
Repeaters are operating well while they are
unlinked. Waiting for “cans” for Kenosha to be re-tuned.
Committee appointments were made by the president:
H/W (Dolores); Tech Talks (Pete); Table/Chairs for meetings (Dutch and
Pete); Hospitality (Sharon), (all volunteers).
MOU between PCRC and organizers of the future Burro
Races, when Dolores and Neal are no longer involved, was considered and
accepted. Harts have headed the Hams involvement every year since 1981.

Operation
of the repeaters is improving. Tech crew has made several trips to both
sites lately. Pete taking "cans" for Kenosha to Denver for
retuning.
Elections:
except for Nancy (who declined re-election) the other board members were
re-elected. Dwain was elected Treasurer.

At the May meeting Mike suggested we move the
147.090 to Kenosha, and release the 146.910 back to the repeater
coordinator. Padre has referred this to the repeater coordinator who said it
is possible, and he will wait to be told of the change.
Members approved purchase of a 10x20 shelter for use
as a booth at Bailey Dayz, and other events. Jack will order, and PCRC will
buy it.
Dutch said at this time a new cabinet for Dick Mtn.
repeater not crucial. However he will continue to research as we may need
more room in the future.

The usual reports were given and received. Treas.
Report: $1,212.99
Dutch and Pete were up to Dick Mountain site Friday
and found the UHF beam antenna link between Kenosha and Dick Mountain had
been blown by the wind 180 degrees. It was reoriented and the 146.910 signal
coming through the 146.895 vastly improved. Plans for replacing the
equipment cabinet with a commercial unit were discussed. Dutch will check
specs and prices.
Mike suggested we move the 147.090 at Kenosha, and
release the 146.910 back to the repeater coordinator. Members present
concurred. Padre will refer this to the repeater coordinator.
Bailey “Dayz”: we will be involved in one of the
two days, along with DSV.

Dutch said with Spring coming he and Pete are
looking ahead to upgrading the UHF link between Kenosha and Dick Mountain.
Other matters (e.g., back-up batteries) will be attended to.
Dutch again reminded we need to do something to
dispose of excess and unneeded equipment.
Nancy said the “Ham Radio in Schools” program
continues to go well at Deer Creek Elementary. She has prepared a fourth
article about the project, and posted on our web page, with another picture.

Dutch asked about restoring DIGI operation at Kenosha (which requires
repair or replacement of current TNC) and possible upgrade of link (UHF) set

Nancy said the “Ham Radio in Schools” program is
going well at Deer
Creek Elementary.
Dutch reported Conifer Christmas Parade (Dec. 1) went well; Jack Frank
was in charge of the Hams’ involvement.
Sharon reported Christmas luncheon (Dec. 15) went well, with good
donations to the Mountain Peace Shelter.

Installing PACKET/DIGI at Dick Mountain showed it
doesn’t work well there at the present time. Removed and installed at
Dutch’s QTH for the POD exercise on 11/17.
An amendment to By-Laws Art. Six was discussed and
given final passage. (see complete minutes for new wording of Art. Six).
Conifer Christmas Parade (Dec. 1) will require at
least nine adults (six ham ops). Jack Frank in charge of the Hams’
involvement.
Christmas luncheon Dec. 15 with the reminder we will
again sponsor donations to the Mountain Peace Shelter.

Work continues on the repeater system, with further
thought being given to the location of the 147.090 machine.
“Ed and Tech Program” moving along, with
antennae and coax being installed, and tests of HF and VHF having been
successful.
Christmas luncheon brought Bob K.’s offer to chair
the food committee, and Dolores to take charge of decorations again.
(Christmas luncheon to be on Dec. 15).

The usual reports were given and received. Treas.
Report: $1,799.43.
Work continued this past week on the repeater
system, with Pete reporting all machines working well, with the team looking
into weak audio on .895, and possible interference.
The Exec. Committee met prior to the VE session and
PCRC meeting discussing past receipts and expenses, and looking at a budget
for the future. No final decisions were made. Future Repeater expenses were
looked at very seriously, and will continue to be.
“Ed and Tech Program” is well on the way. (Look
for further articles on the page and printed “QUA).”
Christmas luncheon was discussed, and decided we
would have one again this year. The Mountain Resource Center will again be
our sponsored charity.
Conifer Christmas Parade, was mentioned. Some
members agreed to help if we are involved.
PCRC members were invited to the Co. Am. Wx Net
annual picnic on 9/8 at Pine Valley Ranch Park, just south of Pine
Junction/Pine.

Work continued this past week on the repeater
system, with new coax and connectors installed for the UHF at Kenosha thanks
to Dutch, Pete and Pete Kraus, Jr.
The Exec. Committee was to have met on 9/15 but has
been tentatively rescheduled for 9/22 (at 11 A.M., prior to the VE session
and club meeting).
PCRC members were invited to the Co. Am. Wx Net
annual picnic on 9/8 at Pine Valley Ranch Park, just south of Pine
Junction/Pine.

Work continues on the repeater system, with approval
to purchase new coax and fittings for Kenosha and Conifer … ($290.85 +
shipping).
A club annual budget was mandated, based on previous
experience, which will establish a specific budget amount for the repeater
system, among others. The Exec Committee to establish.
Pro-rated dues was approved on a quarterly basis for
new members.
Bailey Day (June 30) was reported on by Jack, who
has posted a full report on the club web page, under articles within the
newsletter.
The VE session had five candidates, all of whom were
successful.

We will again be involved with Bailey Day (June 30).
D–6 EC Dutch looking for volunteers as comm. operators, and especially
someone (or two) to organize and take charge of communication for the
race/walk event.

Two pieces of equipment (Yaesu Vertex and ICOM) have
been sent back for service
Considerable progress has been made with the 146.895
and 448.175 (Dick Mountain), now linked and operating very well.
April will have a “Pizza Party” preceding the
meeting.
Field Day involvement was again discussed with
little interest shown, and again tabled to the April meeting.
We will again be involved with Bailey Day (June 30),
with PCRC and DSV sharing expenses and set up.

Much progress is being made
with the repeaters, both the 146.895 and 147.090. Plans are made for further
updates and equipment substitutions, and installation of the 147.090 at
Conifer.

tabled to the April meeting. We’re interested in being part of Bailey Day,
but not sure Matt and Tracy will be available for the 5k race/run.
