The Future of PCRC
by Jack, WØDSV
10/20/09
In Prez Sez, Sharon has advised that she will not run for re-election next year. I also will not run for re-election.
In the years since we were elected, Sharon and I have tried everything we could think of to increase membership and
participation. But, membership and participation have declined, even though more people are getting Amateur Radio
licenses as a result of the discontinuation of the Morse Code requirement.
PCRC needs leadership with energy, enthusiasm, and the ability to attract new members, and to increase
the participation of the existing members.
The future of PCRC depends upon YOU, the members, to elect good leadership at the Annual Meeting on May 22, 2010.

OFFICERS’ ELECTION
by Padre – WØWPD
(06/03/09)
At the PCRC “Annual Meeting” on May 30 there was a lot of
discussion and activity about nominations and officers. After an
interesting exchange of ideas Sharon, Jack, Dwain and Dutch (as Board
Member at Large) were returned to office.
Padre, as secretary, wasn’t sure at the time he would continue in
office, so kept himself apart from Daniel’s nomination to return all
five to office. Daniel’s nomination was voted upon and passed. Padre
will continue in office at least until the next meeting on July 25.

2009-2010 OFFICERS’
ELECTION
by Padre – WØWPD
(03 23 09)
Because of the change of our meeting schedule
the May 23 meeting will be our Annual Business Meeting with the
election of officers for the new fiscal year.
Our fiscal year is from July1 to June 30, and
officers’ terms will continue on that schedule.
Please be thinking about accepting a position
as an officer and/or thinking of someone else to do so. Talk with him
or her. This includes visiting with current board members to see
his/her interest in continuing in office.
A strong and active organization of any kind
needs strong and active leadership. The PCRC is in need of this for
the future, too.
On a personal note, I’m not sure I will wish
to continue as secretary considering the many years I have served, my
health and maybe even (???!!!) the frustration of some with my days in
office. I’ll have to prayerfully think about it. Your input will be
appreciated, one way or another!

GEORGE COWAN --- NØQJY SK
(02/04/09)
We regret to record George Cowan of Leadville was found deceased on
December 4 in his home. He was 72, and missed his next birth (Dec.18)
by two weeks).
George was a long time member of the PCRC, and was always the first
to renew his membership each year in May or early June. In the past he
assisted with the Burro Races and the “100,” even before he earned
his Ham ticket. He was also involved with many other civic causes and
was well known and well liked.
At this writing no known relatives have been found. He had been
unmarried.
May he rest in peace.
BY-LAWS AMENDMENT
by PADRE – WØWPD
Secretary -- PCRC
(12/05/08)
At the meeting on Nov. 15 it was voted to reduce the monthly
meetings to every other month, and meet only in the months of VE
sessions, i.e., ODD months.
To do so requires us to look at the month for the formal Annual
Meeting (currently June) and amend the By-Laws 3.2 to provide for
another month.
Therefore: “Be it resolved that the By-Laws 3.2 be amended to
say:
‘3.2 Annual Business Meeting. The regular meeting in May
shall be considered the Annual Business Meeting’.” (Substituting
May for June).
See Constitution Article VII “Amendments.”
KCØATI Retirement/Move
by Jack - WØDSV
12/1/08
Mike Kendall, KCØATI,
is retiring and moving to Alaska!
Mike has been an active
volunteer and contributor to the advancement of Amateur Radio in the
Colorado mountain area for 10 years. He volunteered for public service
communications events and emergency communications activities whenever
his employment duties would allow. He was the repeater coordinator for
PCRC and Vice EC of ARES District 6. He not only set up and maintained
the PCRC repeaters, he contributed much of the equipment.
In recognition of Mike's
special service, PCRC voted to present him with a plaque of gratitude
(picture below) and special gift.

PCRC, ARES, and Amateur
Radio in Colorado will miss Mike very much. We wish him all the best
in his new life in Alaska.
Stay in touch, Mike!

EXTRA CLASS MANUAL/CDs
by Padre – WØWPD
08/09/08
At the last VE session, 7/26/08, one of the
successful candidates for Extra Class donated his Extra Class Study
Manual and associated CDs to the club, for loan to club members.
These materials are, of course, for the new
question pool, effective July 1, 2008.
J. K. (Keith) McClanahan, KØJKM, was quite
pleased with the materials and wants to share them with others.
Therefore any club member wishing to borrow
them for a suitable time may do so. Contact me to sign up. First Come
First Served!

ANNUAL MEETING and
ELECTIONS
JUNE 28,
2008
by Padre – WØWPD
(05/27/08)
Our June 28 meeting is very important.
Hopefully we’ll have a very good turnout.
The future direction of our club is dependent
on the officers you select in June.
Give serious thought, please, to assuming one
of the officer’s positions and/or deciding whom you would wish to
see in one or another of them.
The election is not a “popularity contest”
but a call to service to those who are elected.
Consider several (unofficial, but necessary)
qualifications when you think of yourself or another for election:
expertise for the office, fidelity to the PCRC ideals, faithfulness in attending regular meetings,
personal attributes (temperament, technical and other required
abilities) and the time to perform required duties from day to day and
week to week as needed.
For general information on the club, it would
be well to check the Constitution and By-laws,
http://www.ab0pc.org/constitution.htm.
Especially
see Article III in the Constitution regarding officers’ duties.
(Reprinted from the June 2006 QUA, and
amended).

ANNUAL GARAGE AND
BAKE SALE
by Padre -- WØWPD
(4/4/08)
PLEASE NOTE: We post this only because Saint
Mary’s has been more than generous in welcoming the PCRC and VE Team
to use its facilities every month for many years. While we offer the church a nominal “rent”
it isn’t much at all. We were required to pay monthly rent in previous venues.
Your supporting the annual sale with donations
and attendance is a good way to show our appreciation. What have you
to offer? (One member has already contributed items).
Saint Mary of the Rockies Catholic Church will
hold its annual garage sale Friday May 2nd & Saturday May 3rd
from 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM. in the Parish Center. New and
saleable used items are being accepted thru Thursday, May 1st .
A Storage Unit is on 43 shortly after the
entrance of Deer Creek Valley Ranchos, same side of the road. If
anybody wants to drop off anything there, he/she would need to call
AnnaMarie or Jim (see below) to make arrangements to meet them.
Other than that, we will have drop off at SMR on Sunday, April 27th
from 1:00-3:00 PM.
If you need donations picked up, please call
AnnaMarie or Jim at 303-838-4485. No computers, printers, or
televisions are being accepted.
*** Your donations may be brought to the PCRC
Meeting on April 26.***
BTW: For several years AnnaMarie and Jim
McCloskey are the folks who have kept up the church’s (lower level)
Christmas decorations for PCRC’s Christmas Luncheon. In fact in 2007
they decorated the area just for us when the church didn’t use the
area for Christmas.
Sincere thanks.

Expanded Capability for PCRC Net
Access
(3/11/06)
Thanks to Neal (KØUEM) and Dolores (KBØEKH), access to the PCRC
Wednesday Night Net is available in the metro area thru cross-band
repeater at 440.300 (simplex). I have used this access for several
weeks now, and am very happy to be able to join the Net from the
'flatlands'. :-)
For the Wednesday Night Net 3/8/06, Carl (WH6ANH) and I were able
to use Echolink to join in. Dutch did some 'tweaking' during the
session, and by the end of the net it seemed to be working well.
THANKS, Dutch!
I hope more people will take advantage of these improvements and
join us on the Wednesday Night Net (every Wednesday at 7:30 PM).
Stay tuned for further information!
